4 Days in Beijing

This post is about a quite unusual but quite amazing city-trip: 4 Days in Beijing!

The Great Wall of China being on the top of my bucket list, I decided to book 4 days in the Chinese capital to cross the Wall off it! I flew Brussels to Beijing with a layover in Istanbul (~420€ for the return flight with Turkish) together with my brother, who quite liked the idea of an Asian city-trip after making some fun of me :).

We arrived in Beijing around 4Pm, and few hours later we were in our hostel (19€/night per person for a private room). The hostel was very well located in a Hutong surrounded by dozens of restaurants! As we’re both excited about food, we decided to spend the first evening eating as much as we could! And here’s what we got! While the chicken feet do definitely look scary, it was surprising but tasty!

Day 1 – Summer Palace & Hutongs

After a (too) long sleep, we started our first day in Beijing at the Summer Palace. Contrary to the Great Wall and the Forbidden city, we did not really know what to expect from this place and it was the good surprise of the trip, as the whole place is stunning! Many temples, a huge man-made lake as it was dug by the Chinese themselves, and a beautiful hilltop (artificial as well as build with what they dug from the lake..!!) from where you can enjoy a panoramic view. Here are (some) of our picture from the Summer Palace, which I definitely recommend to visit if you have a few days in the capital.

We then spent the rest of the day exploring some Hutongs around the Lama temple, where we got the best dumplings ever!

Day 2 – Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square

We started our second day in Beijing at the Forbidden City, which easily took us 3 to 4 hours. It’s quite difficult to describe the Forbidden City, the only word I can find is… Huge! But it’s definitely worth the visit! Here are some of the pictures we took.

After the Forbidden City and some delicious Chinese food in a small local restaurant, we headed towards Tiananmen Square. After 15 mins queuing and going through security check, we were on this famous place where Mao himself is “resting” and where the famous “Tank Man” bravely stood up in front of military tanks (see picture for reference).

After Tiananmen Square, we went to Yingshan Gongyuan at sunset time to enjoy a magnificent view on the Forbidden City.

At dinner time, we headed to Donghuamen Snack Night Market, where we had some strange (but not especially tasty) starters! We then decided to try Little Yunan which was recommended by our guide (Routard) and is one of the top Beijing restaurant on Tripadvisor. It was definitely worth it as the food was incredible (and really spicy!) even if a bit expensive (but still very cheap for most tourists).

Day 3 – Great Wall of China

On our third day in Beijing, we booked a tour organised by our Hostel to visit the Great Wall of China, the main reason of our Chinese trip! We booked a “wild” tour, which is located 3-hour drive from Beijing and is not crowded by tourists. We had the chance to see both a renovated part of the wall as well as a old and authentic section of the latter, which is was a great mix. I had a lot of expectation from this tour, and the least I can say it that I’ve been blown away. The landscapes around the Wall are stunning, and the Wall itself leaves no one indifferent. While photographs cannot really describe the feeling you have when walking on the Wall, thy’re still pretty nice!

After c.8kms walking on the wall and the 3-hour drive back to Beijing, we definitely needed some food and it seemed like the perfect time to try the roasted duck! We decided to try Hua’s Restaurant which had great review online. We also took some (very fat) pork and some starters. Food was very good, although the duck was a bit cold!

Day 4 – Temple of Heaven

After a long night in one of the biggest Beijing’s club (and a though Sunday morning recovering) and a much needed lunch, we spent the afternoon in the Temple of Heaven. As we were there over the weekend, there were a lot of local people playing cards, dancing, etc. which was quite interesting to see. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the main building and is definitely worth the visit.

We enjoyed one last Chinese dinner at Dali Courtyard, which is a more “gastronomic” restaurant. The restaurant only propose one menu (4-5 courses), and the least I can say is that the food was amazing! The food was very refreshing, which is not very frequent in Chinese restaurants! It’s a bit expensive, but it was definitely the best dinner we had in terms of quality. The only negative point was that they serve the 5 courses in like 30 minutes, which is way to fast and you don’t really have the time to enjoy each dish separately.

3 Weeks in Canada

After an amazing 2016 summer trip in Asia, I decided to fly West in 2017 and I landed in Canada! As Boston was also on my bucket list, I decided to book a return flight to Boston. I found cheap direct flight from Dusseldorf for 400€ with AirBerlin, which is a very good deal!

After ~2H spent in the Thalys from Brussels (19€) to Dusseldorf, I had the chance to access AirBerlin lounge for free as I got a free voucher when I enrolled Airberlin’s Topbonus program. Food was not amazing, but it was fine and the free drinks are what matters! Hopefully the flight was not too long because the leg room was really tight! Hopefully, the entertainment system was top-notch, with a good selection of recent and old movies.

Montreal

Few hours later, I got in the night-bus (57€) to reach the first destination: Montreal. We stayed in an AirBnb during 2 nights in Downtown Montreal, with a pretty nice view from our room!

I really loved visiting this beautiful city, especially with all the street festivals taking place during the summer! Don’t miss the spectacular view from Mont Royal (the way up is a bit though, but totally worth it!), the magnificent botanical garden and the Park Jean-Drapeau, these were my top “touristic” things to see in Montreal. Here are a few pictures !

And as my favorite hobby while on holiday (but at home as well) is to discover local food, I had no choice bu to try some Poutines… ! Here are pictures of two best poutines I had in Montreal, the first one comes from Patati Patata, which is a very traditional one. If you’re not brave enough to queue during 2 hours at La Banquise (I wasn’t), I definitely recommend you this place ! The second one comes from Le Smoking BBQ and was definitely the best poutine/meal I had during my Canadian trip. Give a try to the Pulled Pork Poutine, you’ll thank me later 🙂

Québec City

The second stop was Québec City, a superb city 2 hours drive from Montreal. We had the chance to be In Québec during the Festival d’Ete, which means people and parties everywhere! I definitely recommend you to get lost in the old town, and discover its little germs 🙂 If you don’t have the chance to visit the Niagara Falls while in Canada, you should definitely go to the Montmorency Falls, which is the highest waterfall in Québec, and even higher than the Niagara falls! Québec has also a lot of good food to offer, and I recommend you to visit the Marché du Vieux Port where you’ll find delicious cheeses, seafood, fruits, etc. Here are some pictures I took while in Québec city, including the Saint-Jean-Basptiste Library (an old church converted into a library) and the Augustinian Monastery.

Gaspésie National Park

The first national park I visited was the Gaspesie National Park, and it was definitely one of my favorite one! I stayed in the Lac Cascapédia area, which has a stunning lake where you can rent kayak and Canoe. It’s also the starting point of the the Pic du Brûlé, a quite though (13.2kms) trail but with a stunning view at the top! See below some pictures of the park.

Bonaventure

I then headed to Bonaventure in order to do a full-day kayaking on the Bonaventure River, one of the clearest river in Canada! I booked in advance with Cime Aventure (35€/pers.), and definitely and a great time! Definitely an activity to do if you’re in the area.

Tadoussac

After a long drive, few hours on a ferry and a night spent in a Motel in Forestville, I arrived at my next destination: Tadoussac. I chose the Camping des Paradis Marins, as it is also a famous spot to observe whales. It was by far the best camping I’ve stayed in, mainly because of the stunning view on the St-Laurent and the nice facilities/restaurant. I also did a 2-hours excursion on the St-Laurent to observe whales (40€/pers.), and I had the chance to see a Small Rorqual (which isn’t that small!), and a Beluga.

Saguenay Fjord National Park

My penultimate national park was the Saguenay Fjord National Park (Baie Eternité area). I did not enjoy this park that much, and as a consequence  don’t have good picture… !

Mauricie National Park

The last Park I went to was the famous Mauricie National Park (Wapizagonke area), and it was a great one (except the showers :)). I recommend you to rent a canoe and go to the Parker Falls, which will require you to park your Canoe and walk a few kms. Take your picnic and have lunch next to/in the waterfalls, and don’t forget your swimsuit 🙂

12.000 bonus miles with Brussels Airlines American Express!

While you’ll be able to find amazing flight deals online, there is an easier and even cheaper way to fly around the globe for a small amount of euros… Airline Miles!

Most of you probably think that you need to fly quite frequently to be able to gather enough airline miles to get free (or almost) flight tickets. If you’re one of these people, I have a good news for you, it’s not the case! In fact, there are multiple ways to earn Airline miles without flying a single time.

Among these ways to earn Airline Miles, and more particularly Miles & More miles in this case, your main source of miles will undoubtedly be your Miles & More credit card. This post will solely focus on the Brussels Airlines credit cards, but you’ll be able to get a similar card wherever you live (or almost). Brussels Airlines offers you three credit card options: i) Brussels Airlines Preferred American Express (120€ annual fee), ii) Brussels Airlines Premium American Express (150€ annual fee) and iii) Brussels Airlines MasterCard (90€ annual fee).

#1 American Express

American Express is currently offering by far the most advantageous Brussels Airlines credit cards with their double sign-up bonus for friends referrals. New subscribers of their Brussels Airlines Premium American Express will get 12,000 miles when using my personal link below (instead of 6,000) and new subscribers of the Brussels Airlines Preferred American Express will receive 6,000 miles as a sign up bonus (instead of 3,000). You will also get an extra 2,000 miles if you pay your cellphone bill with your card. The main advantages of both cards are described below, but feel free to consult American Express website for a complete list of the benefits coming with your card (Travel insurances, Luggages insurance, etc.).

Capture d’écran 2017-05-17 à 22.55.16.png

#2 MasterCard

Brussels Airlines also partners with MasterCard but the deal is clearly much less interesting, even considering the lower annual fee (90€) of the MasterCard. The sign-up bonus in only 2,000 miles, and you only get 1 mile per 2€ spent with your MasterCard while you’ll get 1.5 mile per 1€ spent with your American Express Premium. For these reasons, I do not recommend this card. Below are the main benefits coming with the Brussels Airlines American express, but feel free to check Miles&More website for additional information.

#3 Who should/can apply for a Brussels Airlines American Express?

While Brussels Airlines American Express cards provide a lot of benefits, they also have a cost: 150€ annual fee for the Amex Premium and 120€ for the Amex Preferred. You should only consider getting one of these cards if you spend a decent amount per year (note that it is easy to spend €1000+ euros per month if you use your Amex to pay for your groceries, online shopping, gas, restaurants, hotels, flight tickets, Uber drives, Food deliveries, etc.).

By spending 1000€/month – or 12,000/year – with your Brussels Airlines Premium American Express, you’ll earn 12,000 miles (sign-up bonus) + 2,000 miles (if you pay your cellphone bill) + 18,000 miles (12,000 * 1.5) for a total of 32,000 miles. If you look at the Miles&More flight awards chart, you’ll see that you can already book a return flight within Europe for 30,000 miles. However, I recommend you to keep your miles and spend them on a long-haul flight once you’ve collected the minimum amount of miles. Indeed, some Star Alliance Airlines such as United offer award flights with very low surcharges (around 70€ for a return flight BXL-NYC). Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines also offer award flights with very low fares (around 60€ for a return flight BXL-BKK). You can use the powerful United’s search engine to look for Miles & More award flights.

If you spend more than 20,000€/year with your Amex Premium, you’ll also earn a 10,000 miles bonus. In that case, you can collect 12,000 miles + 2,000 miles + 30,000 miles (20,000 * 1.5) + 10,000 miles (bonus) for a total of 54,000 miles. Within one year, you’ll almost have enough miles to book a return flight to North America (60,000 miles). Or for just 52,500 miles, you can also book a one-way ticket in Business class to New-York or San Francisco :-).

I suggest you to subscribe to the Brussels Airlines Premium American Express, and cancel you card once you received all your bonus miles. You can then apply for the Amex Preferred, earn an extra 6,000 welcome miles with the friends referral and another 2,000 miles if you pay your cellphone bill with this new card. If you think that you’ll spend 20,000€+ during your first year, you can also wait one year before cancelling your Amex Premium to get the Preferred one in order to receive your 10,000 bonus miles.

#4 You want your Brussels Airlines American Express?

If you’re not enrolled in the Miles&More program yet, you can enroll on their website. You’ll get 500 miles if you subscribe to their newsletter!

To receive your personal sign-up link and get the double bonus, please complete the form below:

Please note that by signing-up using my personal link, I will also receive some bonus miles. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, you can also sign-up using the regular link and get the regular welcome bonus. Thank you for visiting my blog, and Enjoy Your Flights 🙂 !

1 Week in Nicaragua (Leon – Las Peñitas)

During the 2017 Easter break, we decided to spend one week in Nicaragua. Even if it was a long flight for such a short holiday, we couldn’t say no to a 390€ return flight BRU-MGA with United! I found this precious deal on GoVoyages. Our flight itineraries was as follow:

BRU – LHR (1H25 layover) – IAH (1H35 layover) – MGA

MGA – IAH (1H25 layover) – YUL (2H layover) – BRU

Unfortunately our first flight BRU-LHR was delayed and we missed our connection in London, so we had to catch the next flight to IAH and spend a night in Houston. As the plane from LHR to IAH was almost empty, we were able to seat for free in the premium economy cabin, plenty of legroom!

As our time in Nicaragua was limited, we decided to only visited two places close to Managua, to avoid losing too much time in a bus. We thus decided to focus on Leon (1 night) and Las Peñitas (4 nights).

#1. Leon

After a 1h30 bus ride from UCA to Leon, we arrived in our first hotel in Nicaragua. We decided to stay at Hotel Azul ($56, breakfast included). Even if there was some issue with the pool when we arrived, our room was very clean and ultra spacious, and the pool (when fixed) was the perfect place to relax after visiting the city (it was very, very hot!).

leon.jpg

Leon is a very authentic city, with the magnificent Our Lady of Grace Cathedral. Leon is definitely worth a visit just for a climb to the top of the Cathedral, but we enjoyed walking around the city and visiting some museum. You’ll also find some nice places to eat and/or drink cocktails, and we can personally recommend El Bodegon and Nicaraguita Cafe and Restaurante.

#2. Las Peñitas

After one day in Leon, we headed to our next and final destination: Las Peñitas. We chose Las Peñitas rather than other places like San Juan del Sur because it seemed to be more quiet and more authentic, and we don’t particularly like being surrounded by hundreds of tourists.

We stayed four nights at El Belga Loco ($30/night, Breakfast +$2). This place was amazing, one of the best guesthouse we have ever stayed in. Everything was super clean, well decorated, the food (snacks only) was very tasty (try the burritos!), the hosts were very friendly and gave us a lot of tips about restaurants and activities! Price/quality seems to be the best in Las Peñitas, so don’t hesitate one second!

belgaloco.JPG

As our trip in Nicaragua was mainly to discover a new culture but also to take some rest, we spend long hours on the beach or reading books next to the pool. While in Las Peñitas, we also visited the Juan Venado Island Reserve, which I definitely recommend! The guide did not speak English (and we do not speak Spanish), but we were able to understand parts of what he wanted to show us. And we also had the chance to see some baby turtles :-). I do recommend to visit the Reserve if you’re in Las Peñitas or Leon, it’s really worth it!

reserve.JPG

reserve2.JPG

Las Peñitas is also a very popular surfing spot, so I couldn’t leave this place without trying! Even though I looked quite confident before my first lesson (ever), I was exhausted after one hour! It was as difficult as I could imagine, but a very nice experience!

surf.JPG

Based on our hosts’ recommendations, we tried several restaurants in Las Peñitas. The best one was undoubtedly Comedor Bertha, where you’ll have the chance to taste some delicious and fresh lobsters for $10 only! They don’t serve alcohol but you can grab some beers/coktails in the restaurant next to it, and as you’ll see a lot of people actually do that. Another nice restaurant we tried was Sua Grill&Chill, where you’ll enjoy different kinds of tapas (both local and more European ones). Overall it’s pretty good and not too expensive.

Another thing that makes Las Peñitas a very special place is the sunset. We saw some of the nicest sunsets we’ve ever seen there, and when you can enjoy it with a $2 Mojito or a Nica Libre, it’s just amazing! FYI, the picture below is 100% authentic and filter-free 🙂

12 days in Bali

During our 2016 Asian Trip, we spent our last 12 days in Bali! We flew from KL to Denpasar with Malindo Air, and it was by far the best low-cost flight we ever took! We payed 36€/pers. for the one-way flight, and the checked-baggage was included in the price. The plane was brand-new, with a personal-screen for each passenger with a lot of movies/TV-shows and we even got a free meal! If you can avoid flying AirAsia and fly Malindo instead, don’t hesitate!

After a long hesitation, we decided to rent a motorbike in Bali instead of taking cabs to move from one place to another. What made us hesitate was the fact that we had one huge backpack each, and as you can imagine it’s not super easy to fit two people and two huge bags on a single scooter (see picture below, sorry for the bad quality!). But we made it and it was a lot of fun 🙂scooter.jpg

#1 Seminyak

We spent our first 3 nights in Seminyak, because it was not too far away from Denpasar. We chose the Grandmas Seminyak Hotel (20€/night, no breakfast), our room was very clean, the bed quite comfortable and the staff was very friendly. if you’re looking for a cheap but decent place to stay in Seminyak, I recommend!

Seminyak is very touristic and you’ll find a lot of bars/restaurants/shops, and you’ll probably end up  one evening drinking a Bintang in a beach bar, sitting down on a colorful beanbag while contemplating the sunset.semin.JPG

Since Seminyak is approximately 40mins away from Tanah Lot Temple, we decided to visit the temple on our second day. The Temple is definitively worth the visit, even when it’s raining !

tanahL.JPG

On our way back to Seminyak, we made a stop in Hijau Cafe & Warung that we had discovered in the Routard Guide (it’s French and similar to Lonely Planet for those who don’t know), and it was probably one of the best choice we made during our entire trip… The best chicken-sate ever! I even took a second one while my girlfriend took a dessert 🙂 Moreover, the view from the restaurant on the rice terrace was stunning.
Hijau.JPG

#2 Ubud

Our second destination in Bali was Ubud, where we stayed 3 nights at Alam Terrace Cottages (€28/night, breakfast included). This B&B was great, with a superb outdoor pool with natural sounds, a perfect place to relax! The only negative points were the bed – not very comfortable – and and an unpleasant smell in the room. Location was perfect, breakfast delicious and staff very helpful!

Alam.jpg

While in Ubud, we visited the famous Tagalalang Rice Terrace, the Monkey Forest and we climbed the Mt Batur. We really enjoyed these activities, and particularly the stunning sunrise at the top of the Mt Batur. While the climb to the top is quite challenging, the incredible view at the top is worth the pain. Tagalalang Rice Terrace is also a beautiful place, and if you like monkeys you’ll fall in love with the monkey forest :-). Here are some pictures of these three places.

Monkey.JPGbatur.JPGRice.JPG

Also, we decided not to use the main road on the way back from Tagalalang, and as you can see, we ended up in some beautiful places!

scootrice.JPG

When you are in Ubud, don’t forget to enjoy a famous Babi Guling at Ibu Oka (it became so popular that they have Ibu Oka, Ibu Oka 2 and Ibu Oka 3 in Ubud). I really liked it, and I’m sure you will!

#3 Munduk

Our third stop was in Munduk, a little village high up in the mountains. We stayed one night at the Bali Rahayu Homestay (€30/night, breakfast included), a wonderful place with a nice outdoor pool with stunning view on the hills! Our room was super clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was one of the best we had!

mundukpool.JPG

On the way to Munduk, we made several stops to contemplate some breathtaking view, such as the Twin Lake.

twin.JPG

While in Munduk, we also did the “Waterfall hiking” because I really wanted to see some waterfalls. The water was a bit cold, but it was very nice!

waterfall.jpg

#4 Pemuteran

We went to Pemuteran because it seemed to be one of the best snorkeling and diving spot in Bali. We spent 3 nights (but only one entire day) at The Sari Bungalows (€42/night, breakfast included), and overall it was a very pleasant stay at an affordable price.

Our diving (for my girlfriend, €100 lunch included) and snorkeling (me, €40 lunch included) experiences with Ocean Dreams Pemuteran were great. It was the first dive ever time for my girlfriend so she had a practice session in a Pool the day before, and the guy in charge was very friendly. We both had the opportunity to see many fishes and corals.poolroro.JPGpemuteranplage.JPG

#5 Balian Beach

As we didn’t want to drive all the way from Pemuteran to Jimbaran in one day with our motorbike, we booked one night in Balian Beach (Tabanan) at the Shankari Bali Villa ($42/night, breakfast included). On the way to Tabanan, we made a stop at the Rambut Siwi Temple, which was surprisingly empty (we even thought it was closed!). We were the only visitors and it gives a special feeling, the guy in charge even gave me his “hat” for the visit!

rambuttemple.jpg
We did not expect much from our short stop in Tabanan, but at the end it was very pleasant! The village where we stayed was lovely, there are several restaurants and it’s a famous surfing spot in Bali.

L’image contient peut-être : 1 personne, plante, ciel, plein air et nature

#6 Jimbaran

The very final stop of our 2016 Asian trip was in Jimbaran. We stayed 2 nights at the Horison Jimbaran (€23/night, breakfast included). The hotel was quite nice, the room was cleaned and the breakfast buffet offered plenty of choice. Location is quite good, but we rented a motorbike for two days in order to visit Uluwatu Temple. We also enjoyed a sunset dinner on the beach for our last evening in Bali, and it was a unique moment! Almost all the restaurants on the beach install a terrace on the sand when the sun is setting, and you better book a table if you want a spot in a decent restaurant! Bbe careful and read restaurants’ reviews on TripAdvisor, there are many  tourist traps where you’ll pay a fortune for not-so-good food.

6 days on Tioman Island

In our Asian trip during the summer 2016, we had the chance to spend 5 nights in Tioman. This lovely Island in the east part of Malaysia was the perfect place take some rest and to cope with jet lag.

While Tioman was a fantastic place to visit, you’ve got to be prepared for a long trip to reach the Island from KL. You’ll first have to take a bus (5-6h) to Mersing, and the drivers are a bit crazy on the road so I hope you’ll fall asleep asap! Then, the most painful part if the ferry, and I choose my words carefully! You have to book your tickets on Internet (at least I advise you to do so, I booked mine here), but you still have to be there few hours before the departure. Schedule are known few weeks in advance, and it’s a real mess to get your boarding pass. You have to queue three or fore times (first to get a piece of paper from the agent, then to exchange this paper against the boarding pass, then to pay the Island entrance fee,…), and it’s very chaotic. The ferry is always super crowded, and the seats not very comfortable (if you’re lucky enough to get one). But once you arrive in Tioman, you forget everything! The Island is a little paradise, and you will never regret the long and painful way to get there.

As you have plenty of beaches in Tioman, you have to decide beforehand on which one you’d like to stay. As we had 5 nights on Tioman, we decided to try 3 of them!

We spent our two first night in Nipah, the most quiet beach according to the Lonely Planet. We can definitively confirm that this is the place to be if you want to take some rest since we were actually no more than four tourists in this little paradise. As you can see on the picture below, not a lot of tourists :-). What we liked in Nipah is the authenticity and the fact that you really feel alone. No mobile coverage, no Wifi, no hot water, just you and the nature!
nipa.JPG

nipp.JPG

In Nipah we stayed in Nipah Nema, a very nice and cheap (25€/night) place which proposes few basic chalets. Staff was very nice, food was great, nothing to complain about!

After two nights in Nipah, we moved to ABC. ABC is more popular (but the beach is surprisingly very quiet during the day, not too many people), with a lot of guest houses, bars and restaurants. It’s the perfect place if you want to enjoy a still very quiet (and super nice) beach during the day and have drink a lot of cheap cocktails during the night! We spent our two nights in Bamboo Hill Chalets, with a terrific view from our balcony as you can see below. Price was also 25€/night, very good value for money. Wifi is also available but very very very slow 🙂

ABC.JPG

We finally spent our last night in Tekek at the Swiss Cottage. While the beach is also very nice and the Swiss Cottage was a very nice place to stay, we preferred Nipah and ABC. The reason is that Tekek is quite bigger, you have cars (not the case in Nipah and ABC) so you don’t have the same feeling of being disconnected from the world! But as we had to get the ferry around 5am the next day in Tekek, it was more convenient to sleep there. I also want to recommend the Cabana Beach Bar, very nice place to eat/drink while listening to live music!

Kuala Lumpur

During our 2016 Asian Trip, we stayed few days in Kuala Lumpur before and after visiting Tioman Island. Here is a summary of what we liked, and what we did not like!

#1 WP Hotel (27.5€/night)

We spent our first night in the WP Hotel, and we had a really pleasant stay. We actually regret that we did not stay at this hotel when we came back from Tioman! The WP Hotel offers a great value for a very cheap price, and its rooftop pool with a view on the Petronas is magnificent. Just grab some beers in a shop and enjoy your night on the rooftop! It’s a real pity that we booked an Airbnb for our last two nights in KL, but it’s always difficult to know in advance!WP.JPG

#2 Restaurants

While we mainly ate in small local restaurants or just grabbed some street food, we tried two “real” restaurants in KL. The first one was Limapulo Baba Can Cook, and it was simply delicious ! Very local food, cheap price and a very nice atmosphere. The only negative point was that many of the dishes were not available. We also wanted to try a more “luxurious” restaurant, to taste fine Malaysian cuisine. The least we can say is that we were very disappointed! Based on Tripadvisor’s review, we chose the Enak KL. The restaurant is located in a shopping mall, but is very well decorated. Our starters and desserts were delicious, but the main dishes were pretty average while being very expensive. Honestly, I preferred much more the dishes I ate in small and local restaurants than the ones they served. But the worst were the service – the server was very rude – and the price of the water. It costs almost the same to get a 50cl bottle of water than a main course, which is totally ridiculous.

# 3 Things to do

KL is a huge and multicultural city with numerous skyscrapers so if you like to spend some times in crowded capitals, it’s the place to be! You’ll enjoy walking around and trying the countless street food stalls at night!

it’s also impossible to speak about KL without mentioning the Petronas Towers, the world’s tallest twin towers in the world! It’s imperative to approach these two iron-giants during night time, and don’t forget your camera! Unfortunately, we had some issues with our memory card and we lost every single pictures taken in front of the Petronas… ! Therefore, the one below comes from our friend Google 🙂

Résultat de recherche d'images pour

The second place you don’t want to miss in KL are the Batu Caves, this limestone hill that has three caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines. There is an impressive gold statue of the Hindu god in front of the entrance, and the view from the caves is very nice. We did not especially enjoyed the visit of the caves itself, but a lot of people do! As we also lost our pictures from the Batu Caves, the following one also comes from Google.
